Hi all!
That was a great lesson from Brendan Murphy! Here are my take-aways and teacher comments:
THIS ONE IS ANOTHER MUST WATCH FOR UNDERSTANDING OF FRQ SCORING AND GRADING!! REMINDER: THERE ARE ONLY 2 FRQs TYPES ON THE 2020 EXAM!!

Last Night’s homework 2002 MC #24 “psychologist” example:
- This is a nice review of statistically significant (P-value < Alpha: Reject the Null Hypothesis) with interpretation
---THESE ARE FRQs FOR 2018 AP STATS EXAM FRQ #1 “grocery store”, 2007 AP STATS EXAM FRQ #5 “cell phone driving”, 2002 AP STATS EXAM FRQ #4,---
2018 AP STATS EXAM FRQ #1 “grocery store” (more parts than usual exams possibly simulating a 2020 exam in that way):
- a): nice review of how to write an LSRL from a computer output WITH CONTEXT
- b): nice review of how to write an interpretation of the y-intercept from a computer output WITH CONTEXT
- c): nice review of how to write an interpretation of the slope from a computer output WITH CONTEXT
- d): nice review of how to write an interpretation of the coefficient of determination (r2) from a computer output WITH CONTEXT
- e): nice review of how to write an interpretation of the correlation coefficient (sqrt (r2) = r) from a computer output using Strength Linear Direction WITH CONTEXT
- f): nice outlier explanation from a scatter plot
- g): nice meaning of the outlier explanation from a scatter plot
- h): nice review of calculating a residual and defining it
2007 AP STATS EXAM FRQ #5 “cell phone driving” (2 threads/themes in one question possibly simulating a 2020 exam in that way):
- a): Nice reminder of the difference between an observational versus experimental study and definition of experiment (treatment imposed) WITH CONTEXT
- b): Nice reminder of the State step of SPDC for a 2 prop z-test
- c): Nice reminder of the Plan step of SPDC for a 2 prop z-test in the case where a condition (in this instance Normal of RNI) fails so the “conditions are NOT met”
- d): Nice reminder of the Conclude step of SPDC for a 2 prop z-test where we failed to reject the null hypothesis WITH CONTEXT with interpretation of the P-Value
2002 AP STATS EXAM FRQ #4:
- a): nice review of how to write an LSRL from a computer output WITH CONTEXT
- b): nice review of how to write an interpretation of the correlation coefficient (sqrt (r2) = r) from a computer output using Strength Linear Direction WITH CONTEXT
- c): nice example of how when some extreme points are removed from a scatter plot, the LSRL can have a completely different slope and direction with the remaining points
