Page One “Can you predict SAT score from GPA?”:

  • Nice review of response versus explanatory variable explanation
  • Nice reminder of how to find the slope and y-intercept off of a computer printout
  • #1: Direction (positive, negative, or none) from the acronym DUFS + Context
  • #2: Unusual (Influential points: Outliers or High Leverage) from the acronym DUFS + Context
  • #3: Form (Linear or not) from the acronym DUFS + Context
  • #4: Strength (Strong or Weak) from the acronym DUFS + Context
  • Nice summary in paragraph form of  DUFS + Context
  • #5:  Nice review of the LSRL in Context
  • #6:  Nice review of the interpretation of slope in Context
  • #7:  Nice review of the interpretation of y-intercept in Context



Page Two “Can you predict SAT score from GPA?” (residual plot):

  • #8:  Nice comparison of the LSRL value to the estimated value from the LSRL
  • #9:  We use the formula Residual = Observed (instead of “Actual”) – Predicted; nice review of interpretation of a residual
  • Nice reminder that the sum of the residuals = 0 (and mean = 0)
  • #10: Nice review of how a residual plot can imply a linear model. Nice analogy of smiley/frowny face for  nonlinear models for a residual
  • #11: Nice review of the interpretation of the SD of the residuals
  • #12: Nice review of the interpretation of the Coefficient of Determination (r2)
  • #13: Slope Inference (CB Unit 9 / TPS Chapter 12) is NOT on the 2020 AP Stats Exam



Try the check your understanding homework on student height that he gives at the end for Thursday’s lesson if you can.
