Official 2020 AP Stats Exam College Board Lesson #8 Analyzing Two Variable Data

Hi all!

That was a great lesson from Luke Wilcox!  Here are my take-aways and teacher comments:

Reminders

·         4 weeks of lessons and preparation for the exam is being taught/reviewed (recorded) M-F: 2-2:45 PM in these YouTube Lessons 😊  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0pfmyKRpm8&list=PLoGgviqq4845u-QDW3bikMhC4uQsuYDpy&index=16

  • Lessons: April 6-10: Units 6-7 taught first because many schools either didn’t get to these entirely or at all (we did get through most of this); April 13-May 1: Units 1-5
  • AP Stats Exam Friday May 22 from 2-2:45 EST
  • All resources available at Statsmedic.com/youtube
  • If you need a device take the Exam go to cb.org/tech

Last Night’s homework “cricket example”:

  • This is a nice example that reviews the interpretation of slope

Page One “Can you predict SAT score from GPA?”:

  • Nice review of response versus explanatory variable explanation
  • Nice reminder of how to find the slope and y-intercept off of a computer printout
  • #1: Direction (positive, negative, or none) from the acronym DUFS + Context
  • #2: Unusual (Influential points: Outliers or High Leverage) from the acronym DUFS + Context
  • #3: Form (Linear or not) from the acronym DUFS + Context
  • #4: Strength (Strong or Weak) from the acronym DUFS + Context
  • Nice summary in paragraph form of  DUFS + Context
  • #5Nice review of the LSRL in Context
  • #6Nice review of the interpretation of slope in Context
  • #7Nice review of the interpretation of y-intercept in Context

Page Two “Can you predict SAT score from GPA?” (residual plot):

  • #8Nice comparison of the LSRL value to the estimated value from the LSRL
  • #9We use the formula Residual = Observed (instead of “Actual”) – Predicted; nice review of interpretation of a residual
  • Nice reminder that the sum of the residuals = 0 (and mean = 0)
  • #10: Nice review of how a residual plot can imply a linear model. Nice analogy of smiley/frowny face for  nonlinear models for a residual
  • #11: Nice review of the interpretation of the SD of the residuals
  • #12: Nice review of the interpretation of the Coefficient of Determination (r2)
  • #13: Slope Inference (CB Unit 9 / TPS Chapter 12) is NOT on the 2020 AP Stats Exam

Try the check your understanding homework on student height that he gives at the end for Thursday’s lesson if you can.

Please email me any time with any question, comments, thoughts.

Take care!!
