Student Exit Goals
Classes
will focus on the standards and benchmarks identified by Chippewa Valley
Schools and the state of Michigan for the course. In addition, these employability and
life-long learning skills should be developed:
- Develop cooperative group skills
- Ability to self-evaluate quality of work
- Develop research skills
- Develop skills in making sound judgments
- Use a variety of disciplines to solve a problem
- Develop analytical capabilities
- Be a responsible citizen in a global community
- Develop skills in life and career planning
- Develop civic responsibility
- Develop Michigan Employability skills and US Department of Labor SCANS skills
Grading
Students
will be assessed in a multitude of ways so that I can develop an understanding
of the level of comprehension of the course objectives for each individual. I
look for student mastery of the
concepts covered in the course.
Specifically, I evaluate the level of an individual student’s ability to
comprehend, apply, synthesize, and evaluate relative to the topics covered.
Students
will be trained to be successful now. This includes life in and outside of the classroom.
This includes preparation for subsequent math (and other subjects)
coursework. This includes high school
and post-high school life.
**See AP Statistics Common
Syllabus for specifics on grading.
Behavior
--If a student is not in the
room after the bell rings or in their assigned seat when the teacher is taking
attendance, then they are tardy.
--Students will be excused
from classroom when I see that the room is back in appropriate working order
(i.e. not necessarily when the bell rings for passing time.)
--Students are expected to
make up any missed work or assessment item as a result of excused absence. All missed worked is expected to be turned in
OR made-up with a deadline of as many days equivalent to the excused
absence. The student must schedule a
make-up quiz or test with me if missed due to absence immediately upon return to class.
--No make-ups will be given
for unexcused absence. A zero grade will be given for any
assessments related to unexcused absence.
--All student code of conduct
rules, policies, and codes will be strictly enforced.
--Plagiarism of any kind
(including cheating on any assessment item) may result in academic and
disciplinary penalties.
--Any divergence from
appropriate, on-task and positive
classroom participation is deemed as UNACCEPTABLE and may result in disciplinary
action.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I
will be available before and after school for extra help or Make-Ups. A tentative schedule will be defined and
posted in the classroom. Appointments
may be made with advanced noticed.
Please feel free to ask
questions or ask for clarification at any time!!

STATISTICS COMMON SYLLABUS
AP Statistics is divided into 4 main topics of study:
Exploring Data (20-30%)
·
Constructing and
interpreting graphical displays of distributions of univariate data.
·
Summarizing
distributions of univariate data
·
Comparing
distributions of univariate data
·
Exploring
bivariate data
·
Exploring
categorical data

·
Overview of
methods of data collection
·
Planning and
conducting surveys
·
Planning and
conducting experiments
·

of results and types of conclusions that can be drawn from observational
studies, experiments, and surveys

independent random variables
·
The normal
distribution

GRADING:
A = 85 –

B+ = 80 –

B = 70 –
79.99
C+ = 65 – 69.99
C = 60 –

D = 50 –

F =

Quarter grades will
consist of the following:
Chapter Tests = approximately 50-70% of the semester
grade
Quizzes, Assignments, Labs, Projects/Presentations =
approximately 30-50% of the semester grade
Semester grades calculated
with percentages from quarters
Quarter A Grade = 40%
Quarter B Grade = 40%
Semester Exam Grade = 20%
*Any two failing grades of these three will result in the
student failing the class. *
Extra Credit
Policy:
There will be no individual extra credit. Any extra credit offered will be for the
entire class and will not amount to more than 5% of the semester grade.
Homework
Policy:
Homework will be given on a daily basis. Your goal should be to attempt all problems,
by the assigned due date, so they may be discussed for the benefit of the
class. You will occasionally be given a
graded assignment, lab, project or be required to do a presentation. No late work will be accepted.
Absence:
When absent from class you are expected to make up any
missing work in a timely manner (maximum one day for each day missed). If prolonged absence occurs, special arrangements
will be made. Parents are required to
excuse all absences within 48 hours by calling Attendance at 723-2799. Failure to do so will result in an unexcused
absence. An unexcused absence will
result in a zero. If you are tardy
on the day of a quiz or test you will be expected to use the remaining class
time to take the assessment. If you have
an excused absence for the day of a quiz or test you must make arrangements to
make it up as soon as possible.
It is your responsibility to make up all work missed due to your
absence. Any work not made up will be
given a zero.
Reassessment
Policy: Retaking a test or quiz
is not an option for AP Statistics
Testing Policy:
Aids: No aids to
be used except in the case of documented IEP or 504 Plan accommodations.
Time Limit:
Assessments will not exceed one class period. No additional time
provided except in the case of documented IEP or 504 Plan accommodations.
Academic
Integrity Policy:
Chippewa Valley Schools academic integrity policy will be
adhered to.
